Getting Started
with Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini yoga,
the yoga of awareness. It is excellent for students of all
levels of experience. The best way
to learn about Kundalini Yoga is to experience it for yourself.
Preparing for
Class – What to Bring, What to Wear.
You do not need to
bring anything but yourself. Yoga
mats, blankets, and pillows are available. Wear comfortable clothing. Yoga is done bare foot; leave your shoes outside the
door. Yoga is best done on an
empty stomach. If you find it
necessary to eat before class, choose a light, easily digestible snack.
What to expect in a Kundalini Yoga Class
The class begins with some breaths and continues with warm-up exercises, which prepare for the yoga sets (kriyas) that follow. The last portion of the class allows for a meditation and a long, deep relaxation for a peaceful integration, regeneration, and stress release.
East class closes with this song of blessing, in which you can sing along or listen:

The cardinal has a loud and clear whistle. Whistles are reminders to listen closely – to pay attention to what is blowing on the winds. To listen to the inner voice (the feminine) more closely for our own health and well-being and to assert the feminine aspects of creativity and intuition stronger. To pay attention to our diets, that what you are eating may be injurious to yourself and affecting our overall vitality. Cardinals reflect the rhythm of twelve that is going to become more prominent within our own lives.
Reflects lessons associated with responsibility and the recognition of the importance of the task at hand. Cardinals brighten the environment. They catch the eye and add color to our lives. Add color to your life, and remember that everything you do is of importance.
